15 March 2025: Brighton talk with RSE co-founder and Advocate, Paul Hutchings

On Saturday 15 March at 2pm, RSE co-founder, former CEO and current Advocate, Paul Hutchings, will give a presentation about our work at the University of Sussex’s One World Week.

Titled ‘Supporting Refugees: From Charity to Solidarity and Advocacy,’ Paul’s talk will explore how a dignity-centred approach can offer real alternatives to current European asylum systems, which force people into uncertainty through hostile policies, prolonged decisions and limited rights to work.

Paul will highlight the work of our Dignity Centres in the UK and Europe, and explore the role of grassroots initiatives in reshaping narratives around migration. The session will also introduce the Fair Begins Here campaign, part of the ‘Together with Refugees’ coalition, which calls for a fair new plan for refugees based on compassion, welcome and global cooperation; and the Lift the Ban coalition, which campaigns for the right to work for people seeking asylum in the UK.

Join to get deeper understanding of how advocacy and direct support go hand in hand to drive systemic change. The session will offer practical ways to get involved, and finish with a Q&A. There will also be a chance to pick up a copy of our special cookbook, Tastes & Tales: From a Distant Homeland.
