Partnering With LDS to Offer Dignity and Hope to Displaced Families in Cyprus

From September to December 2024, thanks to the incredible generosity of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), we were able to continue making a tangible difference in the lives of displaced people in Cyprus.

With the €25,000 grant awarded by LDS, the Dignity Market—our unique ‘free shop’ where members use points to access essential food and hygiene items—served an average of 250 people each week. This vital support helped our members meet their basic needs during a critical period of transition, between arrival and settlement.

The impact of this partnership extended far beyond the numbers. As one member shared:

“During these seven months, no other organisation, church, or mosque was able to help me. But when I came to the Dignity Centre, I found support that renewed my hope. I wish you the most beautiful days ahead.”

It is stories like these that underscore the importance of the work we do, and they wouldn’t be possible without partners like LDS — whose support helped us adapt to increasing demand, especially from families with young children, while maintaining the flexibility and dignity that define our approach. As one volunteer, who worked in Cyprus during the project period, expressed:

“The Dignity Centre embodies its core values of dignity, community and solidarity. You can see it, feel it and hear it in the feedback from those we serve.”

As we look to the future, the need for ongoing support has never been more urgent. Demand for essential items continues to grow, and we remain committed to meeting this challenge with the same dedication and compassion that guide everything we do. To sustain and expand our work, we rely on the generosity of partners like LDS and the broader community.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to LDS for their trust and investment in our mission. Together, we have made a lasting difference to people seeking safety in Cyprus. We hope this partnership inspires others to join us in creating a more compassionate and dignified world for all.
