Ever wondered how much it costs to volunteer with us?
Mariam from Budget Backpackers recently spent three weeks working at our Dignity Centre in Nicosia, Cyprus, and has shared a useful breakdown of her costs:
FLIGHTS āļøĀ | Ā£161.31
Return flights with British Airways,Ā direct from London Heathrow to Larnaca. Flight time: 4 hours 40 mins.
ACCOMMODATION š | Ā£18 (hostel) – Ā£40 (privateĀ room w/ shared bathroom) per night
14 nights at Ā£20 per night = Ā£280
Please note that as of October 2025 we no longer offer subsidised accommodation in Cyprus.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT šĀ | Ā£15.82
Two trips with Kapnos Airport Shuttle. Only ā¬9 each way, they are comfortable, frequent and can be booked online.
TAXIS šĀ | Ā£22.96
A couple of Bolt rides between the bus depot where the shuttle drops you off and the volunteer flat.
FOOD & DRINK šÆĀ | Ā£133.21
Lunch from the Armenian bakery in the Old Town quickly became a tradition. Beyond that, this expense includes several dinners and drinks out after wrapping up for the day at the Dignity Centre.
GROCERIES šĀ | Ā£38.88
Thereās a supermarket right next to the volunteer flat, which is super handy. However, groceries werenāt the most affordable and most of the time it worked out cheaper to eat out or get a takeaway from Zorbas Bakery hot counter (7min walk from the flat).
INSURANCE āš¼Ā | Ā£22.55
Full cover with Puffin Insurance, which weāve used several times before.
OTHER šĀ | Ā£22.68
Mainly consists of souvenirs and gifts for loved ones back home. Buyuk Han on the Turkish side is great for this.
